Disthene (Cyanite-Kyanite)

Kyanite is formed under high pressure and relatively low temperature conditions, typically during the metamorphism of clay-rich sediments. It is commonly found in metamorphic rocks such as schist and gneiss, where it may arise from the regional metamorphism of deep sedimentary deposits. Kyanite, is also known as disthene, The name "kyanite" is derived from the Greek word "kyanos", meaning "deep blue", a reference to the most common color of the mineral. The alternative name "disthene" refers to the double hardness of the mineral, it has a different hardness depending on the direction in which it is scratched.
